Del Potro ready for title hunt
Juan Martin Del Potro is confident ahead of his title hunt in Rotterdam. " I like to play indoors, especially in such a great stadium as Ahoy. With my game I can be dangerous if I have confidence. The court definetely suits me", said the 23-year-old Argentinian on a pre-tournament press conference at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
Del Potro, the winner of the 2009 US Open after a final win against Roger Federer, is making his debut in the tournament. Steadily he´s approaching his top level, after a serious wrist injury ruined almost his entire season two years ago. "It was a terrible period, and it made me quite depressed. Especially in the beginning, as nobody knew what was going on with my wrist. I missed tennis a lot, and it hurt when I came home and watched my colleagues at work on TV. At that time I was number 4 in the world, and ready to battle for the number 1 postion".
Meanwhile Del Potro has worked hard to get back in perfect condition. "But I´m not at 100 percent of my abilities yet", says the number 10 ranked. "If I cnotinue to develop I´m confident that I can compete with the top players again. I know how to beat Nadal or Djokovic, but I´m not able to perfrom consistently at a high level. Step by step I come closer to my goal. Last year at Indian Wells I lost to Rafa (Rafael Nadal), but four months later, at Wimbledon, I came much closer. I learn from my defeats".
Del Potro faces former champion, Michael Llodra, in the first round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
