Del Potro through to the final in convincing final
Will the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament get an Argentinian winner for the first time in 30 years? It is 50/50, as Del Potro reached the final after a convincing display against Tomas Berdych. If he can beat either Roger Federer or Nikolay Davydenko, he will follow in the footsteps of the legendary Guillermo Vilas, who defeated Jimmy Connors in the 1982 final.
Del Potro showed great form and never looked troubled on his own serve. He won 6-3, 6-1 and had several break points to win even bigger. His impressive power from the baseline put Berdych under constant pressure, and he never allowed the Czech to come back into the match.
Some might say that Berdyc´s performance was a bit dissapointing taking his great form into consideration. He has won 12 out of 13 matches so far in 2012, before Rotterdam. But his serve was not working well today, with a first service percentage of just 49.
In the second set Del Potro raced to a 5-0 lead and then the battle was pretty much over. Berdych did simply not manage to keep up with Del Potros level on the day, and the Argentine seems to be on the right way. "Every day I come closer to my old level", Del Potro said. "But there is still a lot of work to do, before I can battle for the number 1 position".
