Del Potro wins in Rotterdam debut

The 3rd seed Argentine was up against the winner of the tournament from 2008, Michael Llodra. A tricky 1st round opponent. Llodra was doing well throughout the match, and his aggressive style troubled Del Potro, who couldn´t find his rythm.

Del Potro got an important break in the first set and won it 6-4.

In the second set it was even closer. The set went to a tiebreak, and the elegant Frenchman forced the match into a decider.

Once again it was a tight set. Llodra had his chances, but serving at 4-5 he eventually broke down. Del Potro finished off with a backhand return winner.

"I was really nervous, especially in the last game, so it was nice", Del Potro said at the on court interview. He underlined that he was very pleased to be in Rotterdam and to see so many people coming out to support him.

Del Potro faces qualifier Karol Beck in the 2nd round, as he beat German Philipp Petzschner in straight sets.
