Dutch Davis Cup players expected a tough time in Rotterdam
Tough draw, but not impossible, as described by the Dutch players after it was revealed who their are facing in the 1st round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.
"Very difficult to beat him", Robin Haase says about Nikolay Davydenko. "He plays very fast with good returns". The Dutch number one defeated the Russian last year in Monte Carlo. But it was on clay, which is very different, according to Haase. "It is very different from playing him on an indoor court. I attacked him with a lot of high balls on the clay. Davydenko is a great name. Even though he has dropped in the rankings he is a very tough opponent. He didn´t start the season well, but the same happend last year, and suddenly he won a tournament".
Jesse Huta Galung faces Ivan Ljubicic, a two time finalist in Rotterdam. "It will be difficult", says Huta Galung, who recently bacame a father. "He started the season with a couple of early defeats, and I´m playing well right now. Hopefully I can get some tips from Rohan Goetzke (Technical Director in the Dutch Tennis Federation) and Igor Sijsling, who played against him in Metz last year".
Thiemo De Bakker is the only one of the three Dutchmen to take on a seed, as he plays 7th seed Viktor Troicki. "It´s alright", says the former world number 40. "It´s a strong tournament so you can expect strong opponents. He´s seeded but not Del Potro or Federer, so I can go through.
