Dutch double success on Kids Day
Kids Day brought a lot of extra crowd to Ahoy, which created a great atmosphere, both on and off the court. The support for the Dutch double duos was impressive, and the players took full advantage.
Igor Sijsling and Thomas Schoorel looked troubled against Jarkko Nieminen and Viktor Troicki. They lost the first set 6-1, but managed to fight back. In the match tiebreak it was close all the way through. But to the satisfaction of the Dutch crowd, Sijsling and Schoorel grabbed the match tiebreak 10-8, and are ready for the quarterfinals.
As well are Thiemo De Bakker and Robin Haase. They faced a tough duo in Marcin Matkowski and Mariusz Fyrstenberg, who reached the US Open final last year, and has done extremely well the past years in doubles. The first set went to a tiebreak which the Dutchmen took, but the Poles kept fighting in the second to prevent an early exit.
But the Dutch duo played well and took their chances, which paid off. A single break in the second set was enough for De Bakker and Haase. They are through to the quarterfinals with a 7-6, 7-5 victory.
