Llodra and Zimonjic wins doubles title in Rotterdam
The first match on the final day of the 39th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament was Zimonjic and Llodra against Lindstedt and Tecau. The Serb-French duo grabbed the title after a dramatic match, winning 4-6, 7-5, 16-14.
It was a finger-licking good final. The Swedish-Romanian duo was up a set and a break in the second, but did not manage to close it out. "We kept fighting" said Llodra, who arrived late due to Davis Cup commitments in Canada. "You do not get many opportunities like this, but you should grab them when you do. These kinds of exciting wins are always great".
In the match tiebreak match points flew back and forth for 10 minutes. Lindstedt and Tecau had no less than 5 opportunities to win the match, with Tecau missing a huge opportunity on a backhand volley. Llodra and Zimonjic grabbed the win on their fourth match points. "We are the happiest today" Zimonjic apologized after the match. "It´s our fifth title together, so it gives us conficende for the coming weeks. I like the tournament in Rotterdam. It´s always a great crowd".
Michael Llodra agrees that it is special in Rotterdam. He won the singles title here in 2008 and has now won the doubles title as well. And it is a special list with Tom Okker, Stefan Edberg, Miroslav Mecir, Anders Jarryd and Roger Federer all winning titles here. "After my title in Rosmalen and two in Rotterdam, I´m really thinking about buying a house in Holland", Llodra joked.
