Mathieu makes strong start in qualies
Former world number 12, Paul-Henri Mathieu, made a strong start to his qualifying campaign, when he ousted the 3rd seed German, Michael Berrer. The French wildcard rolled through the first set, 6-1, before Berrer eventually got back in the second set, only to see Mathieu close out the match 6-1, 6-3.
Mathieu will now face the only Dutchman left in the qualification, Thomas Schoorel, who beat Ivo Minar in straight sets, despite trailing 4-1 in the second.
Top seed Mathias Bachinger looked comfortable after he grabbed the first set 7-6 against Italian Mateo Viola. Bachinger crushed Viola 6-0 in the second, and is one step closer to the main draw. Bachinger is now up against the winner of Saturday´s final match between Dusan Lojda and Daniel Brands.
2nd seed Karol Beck progressed comfortably with a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Dominik Meffert, while 4th seed Rik De Voest overcame Dutch wildcard Alban Meuffels in straight sets as well. 6th seed Ruben Bemelmans fell in the first match of the day to Germany´s Simon Greul and was one out of two seeds falling in the 1st round.
8th seed Jan Hajek had no trouble defeating Lennert Van der Linden 6-1, 6-1, which left Thomas Schoorel as the final Dutchman in the qualification. Schoorel stepped up and ousted Czech Ivo Minar 6-2, 6-4, trailing 1-4 in the second set.
