Nieminen through after drama

Nieminen, who beat Igor Sijsling in the 1st round, started well, and a single break was enough for the Finn to take the opener 6-3.

Kubot did better in the second. The Polish number 1 is a very aggressive player, and he managed to put a lot of pressure on Nieminen, who struggled to keep up when Kubot attacked. The Pole grabbed the second set 7-5, and the match went to a decider.

Both players had several break points, but none of them managed to take advantage of them. Instead the set went to a tiebreak. Here, Nieminen was the strongest, and he finished off the match in good style, to secure a quarterfinal spot.

Alex Bogomolov is ready for the 2nd round, when Stakhovsky had to retire in the beginning of the second set. Bogomolov had taken the opener 6-3.
