Seppi on hard work against De Voest

In Tuesday´s first match, Andreas Seppi was up against qualifier Rik De Voest. The South African started well, pushing Seppi to the limit. The Italian eventually prevailed, winning 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 after two hours of play.

Andreas Seppi has won his last 21 matches against players outside the top 100, but against De Voest, the streak came close to ending. The South African, who is also a very good doubles player, played very well, making Seppi work very hard. "It´s always hard to play after a Davis Cup fixture", Seppi said. Italy lost to Czech Republic in the weekend. "It took me some time to get used to the ball and the court here in Rotterdam, but once I found my rythm I could be more aggressive. That was decisive".

Seppi was a giant killer back in 2008 in Rotterdam, where he reached the quarterfinals by beating Hewitt and Nadal. But his slow start nearly gave him a 1st round exit. A break down in the second it looked tough, but the Italian fought back, and is ready for the 2nd round, where he faces the winner of the match between 8th seed Marcel Granollers and Philipp Kohlschreiber.
